SWISS International Air Lines (SWISS) is expanding its fleet of Airbus A350-900 aircraft to a total of 10, following the recent announcement of an additional five orders. The Swiss flag carrier revealed the news on December 5, 2024, confirming that the new A350s are expected to be delivered between summer 2025 and the end of 2031.
This order expansion comes as a part of Lufthansa Group’s deal for 25 A350s, initially signed with Airbus in 2019, with the first five A350-900s scheduled for delivery in 2025. The newly ordered Airbus A350-900 planes are set to join the fleet from 2027 onwards, marking a significant investment by the Lufthansa Group.
SWISS CEO Jens Fehlinger expressed excitement about the fleet expansion, stating, "Our new Airbus A350s will enhance the modernity of our fleet and play a crucial role in meeting the high expectations of our customers. With these cutting-edge aircraft and their innovative cabins, we are elevating the level of modernity, sustainability, and comfort for our passengers on long-haul flights."
The new Airbus A350-900 aircraft will feature the 'SWISS Senses' cabin interior, offering passengers a refined travel experience. Expectations are high as SWISS works to finalize the routes for these new planes in the coming months.
The decision to invest in Airbus A350s stems from SWISS' aim to phase out its aging A340s and replace them with more fuel-efficient and advanced twinjets. This move not only mirrors the airline's commitment to sustainability but also underscores its dedication to offering top-notch inflight comfort to its passengers.
