Republic Airways CEO Bryan Bedford is being considered as the top contender for the position of head of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by US President Donald Trump. According to sources who informed Pilotcenter.net News on March 12, 2025, Bedford recently underwent an interview for the role, which will need Senate approval.
Bringing over 30 years of valuable experience in the airline industry, Bedford began his journey with Republic Airways in July 1999. Since assuming the roles of President and CEO, he has overseen a remarkable growth in the airline's revenue from $85 million with 36 turboprop aircraft to exceeding $1.3 billion while operating nearly 200 E-Jet aircraft.
The vacant seat at the FAA became available on January 20, 2025, when former Administrator Mike Whitaker announced his resignation on Trump's Inauguration Day. Following this, on January 30, 2025, Trump appointed Chris Rocheleau, the Chief Operating Officer of the National Business Aviation Association, as the new Acting Administrator of the FAA. However, the NBAA clarified that Rocheleau's tenure will be temporary until the Senate confirms Trump's permanent nominee.
Simultaneously, Trump issued a Presidential Memorandum on the same day, directing an urgent evaluation of aviation safety protocols. These directives were prompted by the tragic midair collision involving an American Eagle regional jet and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River.
The potential appointment of Bryan Bedford as head of the FAA reflects Trump's intent to bolster the aviation sector with experienced leadership, ensuring the safety and efficiency of the country's airspace.
