Vietjet, a Vietnamese low-cost carrier, has recently made a significant move by placing an order for 20 A330-900 widebody aircraft from Airbus. The agreement, aimed at supporting the airline's strategic expansion plans over the next decade, was officially signed in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. The signing ceremony, attended by Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao and President Airbus International Wouter van Wersch, took place in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong during Macron's official visit to Vietnam.

This latest aircraft order is expected to play a crucial role in Vietjet's international network expansion, allowing the airline to enhance its flights within the Asia-Pacific region and introduce new long-haul services to Europe. Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, EVP Sales Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, expressed pride in Vietjet's choice of the A330neo, highlighting the aircraft's advanced features and efficiency. The A330-900 is equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, offering an impressive range of 13,300 kilometers without the need to stop.

Moreover, the A330neo's cabin is designed to provide passengers with enhanced comfort, featuring more personal space, larger overhead bins, a modern lighting system, and cutting-edge in-flight entertainment options. With a focus on sustainability, the A330neo is able to utilize up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with plans to achieve 100% SAF capability by 2030. As of April 2025, the A330 Family has received over 1,800 firm orders from a diverse range of customers worldwide.

Vietjet's Chairwoman, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, emphasized the positive impact of Airbus aircraft on the airline's growth and global network expansion plans. The new contract with Airbus doubles Vietjet's firm orders for the A330neo to a total of 40 aircraft, in addition to the carrier's existing order for 96 A320neo Family single-aisle aircraft. Currently, Vietjet operates a fleet entirely comprised of Airbus aircraft, including 115 single-aisle A320 Family planes and seven A330-300s. The carrier's international services to destinations like Australia, India, and Kazakhstan are facilitated by its A330-300 aircraft.

The partnership between Vietjet and Airbus continues to strengthen, marking a significant milestone in Vietjet's journey towards becoming a key player in the global aviation industry.
