Hungarian airline Wizz Air recently shared its financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2025, reporting a net loss of €241.1 million. The airline attributed this loss to operational challenges caused by grounding 20% of its fleet due to issues with the GTF engine. Despite this setback, Wizz Air saw a 2.6% increase in passengers flown, totaling 15.5 million during this period.
CEO of Wizz Air, József Váradi, expressed optimism about the airline's performance, stating, "Wizz Air has continued to navigate the complexity imposed on its operations... due to the well-documented GTF engine issue." Váradi acknowledged the challenges faced, particularly the negative impact on profits due to operational costs and foreign exchange charges.
Despite the loss, Wizz Air experienced growth in revenue, with a 10.5% increase to €1.176 billion compared to the previous year. The airline attributed this growth to a rise in passenger ticket revenue and ancillary income. The average revenue per passenger also saw a significant increase during this quarter.
Looking ahead, Wizz Air plans to expand its fleet by receiving eight new A321neo aircraft, while phasing out four A320ceo planes. The airline also has a substantial backlog of 307 aircraft on order, indicating ambitious plans for future growth.
Wizz Air's financial results for Q3 FY25 reflect the resilience of the airline in navigating challenges while maintaining a focus on growth and expansion.
