Air India, a subsidiary of Tata Group, has made headlines by revealing its latest aircraft order with Airbus. The order includes 10 A350-900s and 90 A320neo family aircraft, adding to the previous order of 40 A350s and 210 A320neo family planes placed in 2023.
This exciting announcement, which was officially made on December 9, 2024, means Air India now has a total of 344 Airbus aircraft on order. The airline has already received six A350-900s, with the new order set to enhance Air India’s domestic and international operations. In a strategic move, Air India has also opted for Airbus’ Flight Hour Services-Component (FHS-C) for its A350 fleet, aimed at optimizing performance and reliability.
With the recent development, Air India’s fleet modernization plan, initiated when Tata Group acquired ownership in 2021, takes another step forward. Tata Group Chairman, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, emphasized the significance of the additional Airbus aircraft, stating it will support Air India in achieving greater growth and enhancing its global connectivity.
Airbus CEO, Guillaume Faury, expressed his satisfaction with the renewed partnership, highlighting Airbus' commitment to supporting Air India's expansion plans. The ongoing collaboration aims to bolster Air India's "Vihaan.AI" transformation strategy under Tata Group's leadership.
Air India has been operating A350 aircraft since January 2024, utilizing them on key long-haul routes to destinations like London-Heathrow and New York-JFK. Alongside the A350s, the airline also operates a fleet of A320neos and older A320 family planes. This latest chapter in Air India's fleet expansion marks a significant milestone in their journey towards becoming a world-class airline connecting India with global destinations.
