Lufthansa Group to Hire 10,000 New Employees in 2025
Pilotcenter.net News has revealed that the Lufthansa Group is gearing up for a significant recruitment drive in 2025, aiming to add 10,000 new employees to its workforce. This move comes as part of the airline group's ongoing efforts to bolster its operations through the 'Turnaround' efficiency program that was initiated in 2024.
In the wake of various industrial disputes in the past couple of years that took a toll on the Group's financial standing and growth projections, the 'Turnaround' program was launched to help reverse the airline group's fortunes. While the figure of 10,000 new hires is substantial, it is actually lower than the 13,000 employees brought on board in the previous year, after the group had to make significant job cuts during the pandemic.
The recruitment efforts will span across different disciplines and businesses within the Lufthansa Group, which encompasses airlines like Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, Discover Airlines, Eurowings, Brussels Airlines, and soon, ITA Airways. Over the past three years, 30,000 new employees have joined the ranks of the group, showcasing the ongoing efforts to rebuild staff capacity.
Various roles are set to be filled through this recruitment drive, including over 2,000 flight attendants, 1,400 ground staff, 1,300 technicians, around 800 pilots, and 1,200 employees in administrative positions. The majority of the new recruits will join operations in Germany, with a focus on areas like Lufthansa Technik, Austrian Airlines, and Eurowings.
Michael Niggemann, Member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG overseeing Human Resources & Legal Affairs, commented on this initiative, stating, “The Lufthansa Group is and remains an attractive employer with many different job profiles and career options. We look forward to welcoming every new colleague.”
The recruitment drive forms a crucial part of the Group's business strategy as it continues to implement the 'Turnaround' efficiency program to cut costs and streamline operations, including the retirement of older aircraft across member airline fleets. The airline group is taking proactive measures in response to past labor disputes that affected its financial performance and operational efficiency.
While the industry faces challenges such as rising costs and increased competition on key routes, Lufthansa Group is well-poised to enhance its workforce and strengthen its position in the aerospace sector. With the aim of driving growth and ensuring sustainable operations, the recruitment of 10,000 new employees marks a significant milestone for the airline group in the coming year.
