Pegasus Airlines, a Turkish low-cost carrier, has just made a significant announcement that has the aviation industry buzzing. The airline has placed a massive order for 100 Boeing 737 Max-10 single-aisle aircraft and has the option for an additional 100. This deal, valued at approximately $36 billion at list prices, marks a crucial moment for Boeing, especially after a challenging year for the US aerospace giant.

Pilotcenter.net News reports that this strategic move by Pegasus Airlines aims to revitalize and streamline its existing narrowbody fleet. Currently operating a mixed fleet of 118 aircraft from both Airbus and Boeing, Pegasus Airlines is looking to modernize and expand its operations. This new order will see the carrier phasing out older Airbus A320-200s and Boeing 737-800s, with an average fleet age of 9.3 and 10.5 years, respectively, in favor of the more fuel-efficient and spacious 737 Max-10s.

CEO of Pegasus Airlines, Güliz Öztürk, expressed enthusiasm about the fleet expansion with the addition of the Boeing 737-10 model. Öztürk highlighted the airline's commitment to growth both in Türkiye and globally, with plans to introduce new routes and enhance connectivity. The partnership with Boeing signals a return to the airline's roots, as Pegasus Airlines initially started with Boeing aircraft before transitioning to Airbus in 2012.

Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, expressed pride in welcoming Pegasus Airlines as the latest customer for the 737 MAX series. The 737-10 is expected to enhance Pegasus Airlines’ capabilities in reaching diverse markets across Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa. Additionally, Öztürk emphasized the broader economic impact of this order, fostering opportunities for Turkish manufacturers and the overall aviation sector.

This surprising order expands the total count of 737 MAX-10 jets to over 1,200 units, with Pegasus Airlines joining a select group of airlines committed to this variant. With operations spanning 144 destinations, both domestic and international, Pegasus Airlines is set to leverage the efficiency and versatility of the new Boeing aircraft to further enhance its network and passenger experience. This move underscores Pegasus Airlines' vision for sustainable growth and development while reinforcing its position in the competitive airline industry.
