Qatar Airways is making moves by seeking permission from the Colombian aviation authority, Aerocivil, to establish a new flight route connecting Doha and Bogotá. If approved, the airline plans to extend the route to Caracas, Venezuela, utilizing Fourth Freedom rights. This would allow Qatar Airways to transport passengers from Caracas to Doha on the return journey.
The airline intends to operate this service twice a week using either Boeing 777-300ER or Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. This development follows closely on the heels of Emirates, Qatar Airways' competitor, launching its own route from Dubai to Bogotá last year. Since June 2024, Emirates has been operating daily flights to Bogotá using Boeing 777-300ER planes as an extension of its Miami service.
Notably, Turkish Airlines also serves both Bogotá and Caracas from its Istanbul hub. Turkish Airlines' flight to Bogotá continues on to Panama City, while the route to Caracas is an extension of its service to Havana. With these airlines expanding their reach to South America, it's clear that the region is becoming increasingly connected to major international hubs around the globe.
